To celebrate our ninth wedding anniversary last week, we wanted to give each other something different to the traditional gifts.
Nine years is usually celebrated with willow, pottery or leather gifts. Sometimes we follow the traditional anniversary gift ideas, but this year we wanted more of an experience.
We have been meaning to become members of the National Trust for years and this was the perfect occasion to do so.
We wanted to make the most of our membership straight away, so we visited Mottisfont on our anniversary. Mottisfont is famed for its stunning walled rose gardens featuring a vast collection of pre-1900 old-fashioned roses. Flowering just once a year in early summer, they are quite the spectacle and we couldn’t wait to visit!
I had very high expectations for the beautiful gardens and they certainly didn’t disappoint.
From the glorious archways to the herbaceous boxwood lined borders, there was so much beauty to behold.
The colour combinations were exquisite, from the delicate summer pinks and purples to the classic whites and greens.
Beauty as far as our eyes could see and the sweet scent of summer roses filled the air. It was truly a feast for the senses!
If I could paint (I am truly awful), I would love to recreate this beautiful flowerbed in watercolours.
There were so many bees buzzing around, with their fluffy little legs heavily laden with pollen from the bountiful flowers.
Of course, no trip to a National Trust property is complete without a delicious cream tea!
This was our first trip to Mottisfont, but it certainly won’t be our last. It was such a lovely family day out and we’re looking forward to using our membership for many years to come.
