In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
John McCrae, May 1915
We will never forget your bravery, may you rest in peace

So lovely, Morwenna. My grandfather, a farm boy from far north in New York state, served in France in WWI, and was one of the very lucky ones who came home. I often wonder if he had any idea what was up ahead when he left the farm… Thank you for posting this. Hope your day is as warm as you are.

This is a lovely, fitting tribute, Morwenna!! So many have lost their lives fighting for their countries…one day wouldn't it be wonderful if there were no more wars?!!…ever!
Hoping you and Nathan and Poppy have a great weekend!! Love and hugs, Sherry xxxx

so beautiful….and wonderful to share this day with those so faraway. It's just another sign of how truly entwined we are, by a common cause: FREEDOM
