At this time of year the gardens can be rather demanding, they need watering twice a day, flowers need de-heading, vegetables need harvesting and beds need weeding. Gardening can be hard work, but I truly enjoy doing these little chores everyday. I know that it keeps everything in order and it means that we can relax and enjoy being outdoors. However there are also other benefits to doing the garden chores…It was whilst weeding in and around the carrots and spring onions that I saw a large clump of soil that had dislodged from around the veggies. When I tried to smooth it over, to my absolute shock it moved! Immediately I knew that the clump of soil was actually a common toad. I excitedly beckoned Nathan over to see the little creature who was hiding behind the old Belfast sink housing the chantenay carrots next to the raised bed.
Isn’t he such a lovely little creature?!
I was concerned that he needed to be near water and perhaps we should take him to my in-laws garden as it has a stream running through it. So we consulted my favourite wildlife book and it was very helpful.
Happy Friday sweetpeas

what a charmer…just imagine what a fine prince he would turn into! We have smaller frog friends here…they hop around the tree trunks in the evening when I water..desperate for water in our drought conditions…thank you for the introduction to Sir Tobias! xo Laura Jenkins

we have a toad exactly the same. LIke you, I worried that they needed water (other than the nearby bird baths on the ground!), but ours does ok too. He lives in the thick ivy underneath the bench and in the flower bed. Every now and then he makes this rustle noise, which I'm sure is just so we don't forget about him!
Our toad has no name, as he's quite shy,but I shall tell him about Tobias next time he puts in an appearance!
nice to see a post from you. hope you're enjoying your summer. xx

Toads are a perfect accessoryto the well turned-out garden! As a child, I used to play with toads in the neighboring farm's dairy. They hung out bythe back door. I'm sure it was always cool and damp for them. They are always luck in the garden!

Awww, what a cute froggy and such an adorable post! I don't think I've ever seen a frog in our garden. Thanks for sharing pics of your little garden helper with us! xoxo

If only I'd always see that you've posted because often I have no clue and love your blog and all your many adventures. Today I scrolled down and got to catch up and see all the gorgeous pics and attend the flower show, all truly amazing. Of course my fave is the first one of you and Poppy. I see many dogs of her breed here, but they're never as darling as Poppy. What does she think of Tobias? He looks to be a congenial garden invader.
