To celebrate our wedding anniversary this year, we took another little trip to The Cotswolds. If you have been reading along for a while, you may remember we did the same in 2014, but as The Cotswolds is a vast area (almost eight hundred square miles spanning across five counties; Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Wiltshire), there is always plenty to see and do. Last time we stayed in Oxfordshire, so this time we visited Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. There were a few villages that we really wanted to see, so we had a vague route, but were just as happy to pootle around and stop wherever the fancy took us.
Our first destination was Bibury, once described by William Morris as “The most beautiful village in England” and it is easy to see why! Although, in fairness, the majority of the villages in The Cotswolds are just as beautiful and they may not have quite as many visitors, thus increasing their appeal somewhat! From the scores of images online and those depicted in “A Fine Romance” by Susan Branch, I was certain I knew what to expect, but it exceeded my expectations. I live in a very picturesque part of the country and I must say that our little island is blessed with an abundance of beauty, but The Cotswolds make my knees weak and Bibury is absolutely beautiful.
Given its reputation and limited parking options, we thought it would be prudent to arrive as early as possible. This was an excellent idea and I highly recommend the same for any prospective visitors. We were able to park alongside the river, just a stone’s throw from the famous Arlington Row.
A sage green door surrounded by roses, could there be anything better?
Just add my loves and my heart is very happy!
Does anyone else’s pooch like to walk on walls? Poppy is very curious and thoroughly enjoys seeing what is going on around her.
All of the homes were absolutely beautiful!
We were ready to move in to this beautiful house!
I am not usually a fan of geraniums, but I really liked this pretty and simple collection in terracotta pots.
Upon seeing coaches meandering their way through the village, we knew it was time to move on and head towards our next destination.
